We love retro cars at MLM and heres a spot for me to babble on about them!

Alfa Romeo 75

Produced between 1985 to 1992 the 75 was Alfas attack on the 4 door saloon market competing with the likes of BMW, In true Italian style the cars spec was interesting to say the least, running gear consisted of torsion bar front suspension, gearbox mounted in the rear of the car with de-dion rear axle with watts linkage giving near 50/50 weight distribution and perfect handling! The 75 was also one of the first Italian cars to have a more comfortable driving position!

Engines where V6 and a new 2 litre 16v twincam engine featuring 2 spark plugs per cylinder and variable valve timing, coupled with aggressive angular styling the 75 was Alfas flagship model for a time. Troubled by electrics, rust of course and problems with sourcing parts for the elaborate transmission there are very few left now, and the very limited edition 75 Turbo Evoluzione produced so the car could go Group A touring car racing. Sadly it raced around the same time as the Ford RS500 so good results where hard to get!

Finding a good one now is pretty tough but in 2007 MLM found an example and recommissioned it for the road, although this example had uprated suspension the idea of the rear mounted gearbox can be felt as the drive was very stable, not rough and the car cornered like it was on rails! It was the 2 litre twinspark model performance was brisk and driving it makes you wonder how quick a V6 would be!

Suprisingly the electrics where fine on this car, the trick is all the systems need to be used and they keep working if the car is left your asking for trouble! Mechanically it was a straight forward car to work on and very rewarding when finished.

All in a great retro car worthy of additon in my little hall of fame.
