1330 Rally/TrackDay Engine

The Brief: A 100bhp trackday engine, that’s road usable! In conjunction with ACDodd We put together a spec to suit rally or track day use, the aim was good power but not too much! With attention paid to reliability and rebuild potential in the future, we had requests from some rally drivers who where constantly replacing engines with melted pistons etc as they where running too much power for application, CR too high etc and they were not finishing events! Our answer was to give a sensible spec that will cover mileage! With a low Rpm band again to increase reliability. This spec is also suitable for track days.

Cyl Head:
MLM stage 3 ported head unleaded seats 36 x 29.4mm valve sizes, bronze guides, and 180LB springs, combustion chambers balanced. Roller Tip 1.3 ratio rockers.

Block Assy:
A+ short engine, block stripped oil and water plugs removed, chemically cleaned, offset bored (where feasible) +0.060”, (Mini spares mega pistons 6cc dish) to give 1330cc, bores selectively sized to suit individual piston fit, crankshaft reground to next undersize, hardened and balanced, new shells, crank tail reground and polished and fitted with re-bushed primary gear, new cam followers, oil pump, water pump, duplex timing chain, Kent 286 cam, dialed in with offset key, In order to establish the correct compression ratio the engine is dry built and measured and appropriate machining carried out to achieve 10.25.1 CR.

Engine assembled with BK450 head gasket and ARP head stud kit, and rod kit,
Lucas 65DM4 electronic distributor with ACDodd advance curve, 45 DCOE Carb on 6” manifold.

We also supplied a full competition transmission including SCCR gears, SC drop gears, Twin crosspin diff, 3.65 final drive, and Steel flywheel with blueprinted paddle clutch.

After running in the rolling road figures show we got the engine just how we planned! With 100bhp at 5500rpm and 100 lbft torque at 4500rpm giving excellent performance on road and track, with our rally drivers reporting their cars feel quicker along with the novelty of completing events! These engines still require careful servicing and regular maintenance but the beauty of this spec is wont be scrap after a couple of thousand miles compared to 1380 100+ bhp specs.

All our engines are setup on the same rolling road to ensure consistant results and to show how different engine specifications comapre, rolling roads do vary but our chosen venue Sanspeed regularly power check std cars to ensure accuracy.
