'A'Series Engines/Transmission and other makes.
We have much experience in building and tuning the A series engine, we have put together various specs of motor ranging from standard replacement spec engine right through to 130+bhp Sprint/Hillclimb units. The knowledge gained from running these different specs allows us to recomend what engine would be right for you.
In conjunction with ACDodd We can supply our own spec cylinder heads, cam profiles, transmissions, we also use and recomend parts from other suppliers. We only supply and fit our engines, we do not supply kits, the advantage of this is we can make sure the unit is correct from the tolerances required in the engine to the idler gear shimming in the gearbox, as well as ensuring the unit is then set up correctly with the correct carb needle/advance curve. All this ensures that you only have to drive it!
When choosing a new engine specification you need to decide what use the unit is to be put through which will dictate the power level to aim for, if for example the engine is for a road car which is a daily driver then a modest power level should be aimed for with perhaps a look at improving torque output. The aim is to produce a unit that will give mileage, on the other hand if the unit is to be used for track or competition work then the reverse is applicable where power is the aim at the expense of usable mileage!
All the engines we build have close attention paid to Compression Ratio settings to ensure their compatibility with todays unleaded fuels. The following specs and power graphs are actual units we have built and serve as good examples of what can be achieved from a given specification. As well as the main engine/gearbox/head work we also recon/rebuild all the other ancilleries for the engine, from rebuilt carbs(all types) alternators, modified distributors, lightened and balanced flywheel/clutch assy (carb or injection).
'A'Series Transmissions:
As well as supplying gearboxes to go with our speced engines we offer a varied rebuild service for the mini gearbox on its own, we offer a reconditioned gearbox from as little as £185 exchange which is what we call a 'service exchange' spec where only worn parts are replaced, we also offer an 'ultimate' rebuilt gearbox featuring all new parts and selective assembly, we can also build gearboxes with straight cut gearsets and different differentials/final drives specified to suit application, Other makes of engine/transmission:Although our first love is the A series We cater for most other types of engine and gearbox building, From a head re-furbish on a Honda Vtec to full V8 engine build! A personal project is a Hillclimb/Sprint spec Fiat Strada Abarth 130Tc which features a very retro 8 valve twin cam motor running solex side draught carbs, the power graph shown is the before results, A ported cylinder head and cam change is planned along with a swap for megasquirt injection or weber carbs. |
